Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Police say they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Police then found numerous other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to its source; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to solve the case" and have appealed to the community for details.
An important representative stated the vandalism rendered him speechless and required to be addressed quickly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
